SMFD Stay Alarmed Program

A working smoke alarm provides early warning of a fire. Your chances for survival are two times better when smoke alarms are present than when they are not. Because the St. Marys Fire Department is committed to life safety, we provide and install smoke alarms free of charge to any home that identify as one of the following categories: a senior citizen, a financial hardship, small children, or have a disability. If you need help installing or checking the battery in your home smoke alarms, call the Smoke Alarm Hotline at (912) 882-6289 or email us to get more information.
To help protect your family from fire, install smoke alarms

  • In every bedroom
  • Outside each separate sleeping area
  • On every level of your home

Test your smoke alarms monthly and replace all smoke alarms when they are over 10 years old or do not sound when tested.
