Sewage Overflow Notification

Public Notice

The City of St. Marys began experiencing overflows of sewage from multiple manholes into waters of the State on September 10, 2017. The overflows were a result of multiple issues caused by Hurricane Irma.

There were multiple locations affected throughout the entire City.

A few manholes in land-locked areas experienced an overflow, however this overflow did not enter waters of the State. These overflows were stopped very quickly by the use of generators and by-pass pumps.

EPD has been notified of this event and all major spill procedures have been implemented to ensure the safety of our citizens and to lessen the impact on the environment.

For further information or questions regarding this spill, please contact Wayne Broxton (Utilities Superintendent) at 882-4415.
