Mayor John F. Morrissey

Mayor Morrissey began his third term as Mayor of St. Marys Georgia in January 2021.  He was first elected to a City Council seat in 2010 and first became Mayor in 2014.

The Mayor was born in Charleston, South Carolina and grew up in the South and in northern New York State.  He graduated with a BBA from St. Bonaventure University and continued MBA studies at the University of Buffalo.

His career with Corning Incorporated (as a strategic and business procurement executive) involved positions in Corning, New York and in relocation to their operations in Massachusetts, Illinois, New York and Texas.  He worked in both domestic and international operations at division and corporate levels managing strategic supply chain operations and contract negotiations.

Throughout the years, he often visited his brother in St. Marys and sister in Kingsland and grew to admire and enjoy the area.  When he retired in 2006, he chose St Marys as his permanent home.

Mayor Morrissey currently serves on the Camden County Board of Health and the Coastal Regional Commission. In the past he served on the city Ethics Commission, the Camden Joint Development Authority and the Salvation Army Advisory Board.

Active in church and community endeavors, he is an avid history buff and can often be seen greeting visitors to St. Marys and showing them some of St. Marys most historic sites.

With an appreciation for the natural beauty of St. Marys, the Mayor spends any free time walking, kayaking, bike riding or relaxing at the city’s incomparable waterfront area. Above all, Mayor Morrissey enjoys meeting citizens and visitors sharing thoughts and ideas about the past, present and future of St. Marys.
