Hospital Authority of St. Marys GA
Purpose: The Hospital Authority operates under state statues. Its role changed in 2013 when a Superior Court Judge directed the Authority to expend its financial resources towards the maintenance and operation of the St. Marys Senior Center. To comply with that court order, the Authority works closely with the City of St. Marys, which has responsibility for the management of the Senior Center. The Authority is interested in funding programs and experiences that encourage participation and enrich the lives of the seniors utilizing the Senior Center.
Assets: The Authority owns the building in which the Senior Center operates and leases it to the City for $10 a year. As a landlord, the Authority has the same responsibility as any landlord in maintaining and protecting its assets. The Authority receives its funding from the earnings of an investment account built over the years from the sale of the Convalescent Center in St. Marys.
Members: The Hospital Authority Board consists of nine (9) citizens who are appointed by City Council and serve four year terms. Members must be a resident of St. Marys and have knowledge of budgets and financing. In addition, health care and senior service experience is helpful.
The current members and terms are:
