Chief Wilkie brings over thirty years of experience in law enforcement and criminal justice to the chief’s office. Prior to St. Marys, he served for almost ten years as the Chief of Police for the City of Acworth, GA. Prior to Acworth, he served as the chief of police for the Town of Springdale, South Carolina. He has served as a professor of criminal justice and adjunct faculty for several colleges in Georgia and South Carolina.
A life member of both the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police and the South Carolina Police Chiefs Association, Wilkie is a proponent of the principles of community policing. He spends a good deal of time in the community getting to know our citizens and business community. His previous agency in Acworth received recognition from the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, the FBI National Academy Associates, and the Governor’s office for its involvement in the community for its “Covering The Bases” program which annually raised money to support a special needs sports league in Acworth.
Chief Wilkie holds a master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Carolina, a master’s degree in public administration from Columbus State University, and a Doctor of Public Administration degree from Valdosta State University. He is a graduate of 207th session of the FBI National Academy and the 26th Georgia Command College. He was selected as a member of the 17th Georgia/Israel Law Enforcement Exchange (GILEE) in 2009. He served in the United States Army Reserves and the Georgia State Defense Force.
Chief Wilkie and his wife, Sharon, have been married for over forty years. They have four adult children all of whom were adopted from Russia. They have one granddaughter.
